Nova Scotia Mi'kmaw Hall of Fame

Recognizing our Aboriginal Mi'kmaw Athletes of the Past

The NSMSRC would like to announce the intention to proceed in negotiations with the Sports Minister of the Provincial Government of Nova Scotia in conjunction with the long term goal of developing the processes involved in establishing the Nova Scotia Mi'kmaw Sports Hall of Fame.  As part of this development, it is recognized that there will be a need to do a study into the history of Mi’kmaw sports through actual person to person interviews with regard to actual names and dates of our athletes and coaches that participated in high performance events in and out of our communities.

The development of the Nova Scotia Mi’kmaw Sports Hall of Fame is a long term objective of our organization and this initiative is aimed at recognizing the athletes that have climbed that mountain of mainstream sports and have succeeded against the many odds and barriers encountered by them.   The idea is to house our Hall of Fame in the Province's Hall of Fame with the objective of increasing awareness and promoting our athletes at a high level to both our own Aboriginal Mi'kmaw from Nova Scotia but also to all who enter the display.

The NSMSRC will be working hard to complete the outline and criteria of athletes to be considered for this highly esteemed Hall of Fame Awards.

In the next number of months and possibly years, we will be working close with both the Nova Scotia Sports Hall of Fame and the Nova Scotia Sports & Recreation Commission to ensure that our athletes of the past, present and future have a place in the Mi'kmaw Hall of Fame.

The NSMSRC is requesting that if anyone has any information of any possible candidates from the past that should be considered for our inaugural induction to the Nova Scotia Mi'kmaw Sports Hall of Fame - you are asked to please contact the NSMSRC at your convenience.
