National Aboriginal High Performance Training
Camps (Various Sports)
The Program
The Aboriginal Sport Circle (ASC) has recently introduced its Annual National Aboriginal
High Performance Training Camps with great excitement. Aspiring Aboriginal athletes and
coaches from across Canada will now be selected to go to high performance camps for
training and coach mentoring. Selected participants will be among other athletes and
coaches for a week of personal development both on and off the court.
Our goal is to prepare already successful athletes for advanced levels of competition, and
to have Aboriginal coaches acquire coaching certification while gaining experience with
high performance athletes.
Our Principles
By partnering with other National and Regional Sport Bodies and Centres, the camp will
offer a balanced curriculum derived from high level technical content, complemented by
Aboriginal philosophies to sport. Athletes will be offered training on mental and physical
preparation in a culturally, spiritually sensitive environment. Coaches will be mentoring
with National/Provincial coaches to enhance or develop their coaching styles, and apply
them holistically. Selection and participation in the camp will have equitable regional
and gender representation.
